102: The importance of preventative nervous system care
Do you ever try to calm down in a moment of anxiety or anger by breathing or meditating and actually end up feeling worse? You're not alone. I see people try to take care of their nervous systems with a bandaid approach that doesn't help sustain long-term wellbeing. In today's episode I discuss what the nervous system does; its different states; how we can cultivate self-compassion by better understanding how our nervous system works; why regulating and taking care of it in a preventative, holistic and regular way is important; and share several tips for how to do that.
